The steel is the king of metals. Born as an alloy of iron and carbon almost 4 thousand years ago, it went through a long improving process that makes it today worldwide ubiquitous.
From the second half of the XIX century, the modern era of steelmaking began. Due to the 1855’s Bessener process, the steel production became way cheaper and more efficient; the material soon started to lead the industrial revolution, setting new standards for infrastructures and machineries.
In the modern age, the wealth of the steel industry is often considered a development indicator.
